(Even When Everything Is Free Online)
I JUST KEPT FAILING…
A few months ago, the radiator tab on my ’32 Deuce Coupe broke. It’s a small piece of aluminum that keeps the radiator from blowing off into the car behind me. Not optional.
Now, I can weld pretty well. But I’d never welded aluminum.
Different tools. Different gases. Different process.
Day after day, I practiced before taking a 5,000-degree torch to my car.
And every day?
Fail.
Fail.
Fail.
I watched hours of YouTube videos.
Still nothing.
The Problem Wasn’t Effort
It Was What I Didn’t Know to Ask Finally, I called Russ; an old hot rodder from my Michigan days.
“Russ,” I said, “I’ve tried everything. I can’t get this to work.”
He asked one question: “Where’d you get your practice metal?”
“Home Depot.”
“That’s your problem.”
Cheap aluminum. Full of impurities.
Doesn’t matter how skilled you are—you’re not welding that.
He knew in 60 seconds what I couldn’t figure out in days.
Why? Because he’d been there.
This Is Exactly Why Business Coaching Exists in the Construction Industry
Today, business owners have unlimited access to information.
Podcasts. YouTube. Templates. Free tools.
But information isn’t the problem.
Decision-making is.
That’s where a business coach in the construction industry becomes valuable.
Not because they know more than the internet.
But because they know:
• What matters
• What doesn’t
• What to fix first
• And what you don’t even realize is holding you back
Construction Business Owners Don’t Need More Information
They Need Better Direction
Most construction business owners—general contractors, home builders, entrepreneurs—are already working hard.
They’re managing:
• Project management issues
• Pricing decisions
• Cash flow challenges
• Team members and client relationships
• Day-to-day disruptions
They don’t lack effort.
They lack clarity and structure.
And that’s what business coaching provides.
What a Construction Business Coach Actually Does
A true construction business coach doesn’t just give advice.
They help you:
• Optimize your business operations and workflows
• Improve profitability and protect profit margins
• Strengthen your pricing and sales process
• Build leadership skills and strong leadership across your team
• Streamline decision-making at every level
• Create a clear roadmap for business growth
This isn’t theory.
It’s real-world, proven strategies built for the unique challenges of the construction industry.
Why High-Performing Builders Invest in Coaching
The builders who reach the next level don’t rely on guesswork.
They invest in:
• Expert guidance
• Executive coaching
• Strategic planning
• Leadership development
• Proven systems that support long-term success
Because they understand something most don’t:
You don’t grow a successful construction company by doing more.
You grow it by doing the right things—consistently.
Speed Matters More Than Effort
I could’ve eventually figured out that aluminum problem. Maybe.
But how much time would I have wasted? How much frustration? How many failed attempts?
That’s what a business coach removes.
Not the work.
The wasted time.
In a construction business, that means:
• Faster improvement in cash flow
• Better control of net profit
• Stronger business decisions
• More efficient project management
• A clearer path to your business goals
The Real Value of Business Coaching
It’s not just knowledge.
It’s:
• Context
• Experience
• Pattern recognition
• Years of experience applied in real time
A good coach sees what you can’t.
And helps you fix it faster than you ever would on your own.
Why I Hire a Coach
And Why I Am One
I have a coach.
Not because I don’t know enough.
But because I want to get to new heights faster, and with fewer mistakes.
And it’s why I provide contractor coaching and business consulting for construction business owners. Because I’ve seen the difference it makes.
Why This Matters for You
If you’re trying to grow your construction business using only free information, you’re fighting an uphill battle.
You’ll:
• Spend more time figuring things out
• Make slower progress
• Miss opportunities to improve profitability
• Stay stuck in the same patterns
Not because you’re not capable, but because no one is helping you see what you can’t see yet.
The Bottom Line
Free information can get you started.
But it won’t get you to the next level.
That requires:
• Structure
• Strategy
• Strong leadership
• And the right guidance
That’s what a business coach in the construction industry provides.
So… What’s Slowing You Down Right Now?
Because chances are…
It’s not what you think.
Always in your corner,
Rodric
